Bruce Pearl's tenure as head coach at Tennessee ended not long after his team's humbling 75-45 loss to Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Pearl was fired within days, the aftermath of his admission that he had given NCAA investigators false information when asked about a cookout at his home attended by high school juniors.

His team fell to Butler in the NCAA semifinals, but VCU forward Jamie Skeen continued his inspired tournament play with 27 points, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and six rebounds.

Arizona's Derrick Williams made himself a household name when his Wildcats put on a show in their Sweet 16 game against Duke, a 93-77 victory. Williams scored 32 points and hauled in 13 rebounds while showing off a versatile skill set as Arizona outscored the Blue Devils 55-33 in the second half.

In a battle of two of the game's hottest young stars, Kemba Walker's (far left) UConn team held off Derrick Williams and Arizona 65-63 in the Elite Eight. Williams and teammate Jamelle Horne missed potential game-winning 3-pointers in the final seconds as the Huskies won their ninth game in 19 days.

While upstarts VCU and Butler met in one NCAA semifinal, powerhouse programs Kentucky and UConn squared off in the other. Here, Kentucky's Doron Lamb shoots as Connecticut's Jeremy Lamb defends. Kemba Walker had 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead UConn into the title game with a 56-55 win.

Notre Dame was one of 11 Big East teams to receive an NCAA tourney bid, but nine of those were eliminated by the second round. The second-seeded Irish fell to No. 10 seed Florida State 71-57 in the round of 32.
