Men's basketball coach Rick Majerus, 64, seen here in 1996, had only one losing season in 25 years with four schools, amassing a career record of 517-216. He announced in November that he wouldn't return to Saint Louis University because of a heart condition. Majerus died Saturday at age 64.

''Rick left a lasting legacy at the University of Utah, not only for his incredible success and the national prominence he brought to our basketball program, but also for the tremendous impact he made on the young men who were fortunate enough to play on his teams,'' Utah athletic director Dr. Chris Hill said of Majerus.

Majerus, born in Sheboygan Falls, had several coaching stints in Wisconisn. He coached at his alma mater, Marquette, from 1983 to 1986, and served as an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks (pictured) in 1986-87.

On Dec. 15, 2004, Majerus was hired as USC's head coach. But five days later, Majerus resigned, citing health and fitness reasons.

Majerus accepted the head coaching position at Saint Louis in 2007. He compiled a 95-69 record in five seasons and led the Billikens to their first national ranking since the 1994-95 season.

Majerus ended Saint Louis' 12-year NCAA tournament drought last season, and the ninth-seeded Billikens took top seed Michigan State to the wire before falling, 65-61. Majerus took 12 teams to the NCAA tournament and four to the NIT.

''It was a unique experience, I'll tell you that, and I loved every minute of it,'' said Saint Louis guard Kyle Cassity, who played for Majerus from 2008 to 2012, of his experience playing under the coach.
