Two of the most storied programs in college basketball history, Kentucky and Kansas, lost on the same night Tuesday in Atlanta. That created some minor movement in this week’s power rankings, but not too much. Preseason tournaments and classics create these early “upsets.” But don’t put too much stock in these results. As the coaches like to say, every team is a “work in progress” in November. So Michigan State can travel to Germany, come out flat and lose to unranked Connecticut. The Huskies returned with the trophy from the Armed Forces Classic, but even at 2-0 we aren’t convinced UConn is a Top 25 team. Here’s a look at the new rankings:

The Hoosiers are off to a 2-0 start with Sam Houston State next on the schedule. The news from week No. 1 was all good as coach Tom Crean received a contract extension and Indiana’s recruiting class now ranks No. 2 in the nation, according to Scout.com.

Wolfpack fans are excited in Raleigh. PNC Arena sold out for the opener against Miami (Ohio), and that hadn’t happened since the 1999 opener against Georgia. NC State rewarded its fans by shooting 61 percent and winning 97-59.
