It figures to be a long conference season for Air Force once Mountain West play begins in January.

The Falcons went 0-16 in the league last season and it's hard to tell how much they can improve by the soft nonconference slate.

Beating teams like Western State and Dickinson State doesn't reveal much about the Falcons. Same goes for Charleston Southern and North Carolina Central.

So perhaps being blown out at home by Northern Colorado might be the best indicator of what's in store for Air Force.

The Falcons lost by 24 points and didn't make a 3-point shot. The Falcons' best player, senior forward Grant Parker, finished with one point.

Air Force went 35-5 at home during conference play from 2004-08 before going winless in eight conference home games last season. If the Falcons can't win at home this season, matching last season's 0-16 conference record is a distinct possibility.

As always, the Falcons will play hard for 40 minutes and frustrate opponents with their intelligence and hustle. But they just don't have the talent to match up with most of the Mountain West teams.
