WHAT WE LEARNED IN NOVEMBER: That having a go-to scorer inside has made a big difference. Junior forward Shamari Spears, a transfer from Boston College, is making a major impact on the 49ers with a 21.8-point game average.

DECEMBER AT GLANCE: The 49ers have some easy nonconference victories built into their schedule to help them continue to build confidence after their dreadful 11-20 season of a year ago. However, they also have a number of tests to get them ready for Atlantic 10 play, including Dec. 5 at Louisville, Dec. 23 at Old Dominion and Jan. 6 at Tennessee along with a home date with Georgia Tech on Jan. 2.

PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters -- F Chris Braswell, F Shamari Spears, G Charles Dewhurst, G Derrio Greeen, G DiJuan Harris. Key Subs -- F RaShad Coleman, C Phil Jones, G Ian Anderson, G Shamarr Bowden.

ROSTER REPORT:

--Junior F An'Juan Wilderness is expected to see his first action of the season Dec. 5 at Louisville after missing the first six games with a calf injury. Wilderness averaged 7.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 26.1 minutes a game last season.

--Junior F Shamari Spears was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 28. He averaged 27 points and five rebounds while making 22 of 28 shots (79 percent) from the field in victories over Yale and Hofstra.

--Freshman G Shamarr Bowden is averaging just 10.5 minutes a game but could become a factor if Charlotte needs more scoring punch off the bench. He showed explosiveness in the opening-night win over North Carolina-Asheville by scoring 21 points in 11 minutes, including making six 3-point field goals and pouring in 12 points in a span of 67 seconds.
