College Basketball: Wisconsintops Duke

Trevon Hughes scored 19 of his career-high 26 points in the second half as Wisconsin held on to beat No. 6 Duke, 73-69, last night in Madison, Wis., snapping the Blue Devils' perfect record in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Badgers (5-1) never trailed and got a measure of payback against Duke (6-1) after being routed 82-58 two years ago in Durham, N.C. Kyle Singler scored 17 of his career-high 28 points in the first half for Duke. Illinois 76, Clemson 74 - Mike Tisdale hit the go-ahead jumper with 41 seconds left, then blocked David Potter's driving shot on the No. 18 Tigers' (6-2) next possession as the Illini (5-2) rallied from 23 points down for the win in Clemson, S.C. Demontez Still missed a driving shot at the buzzer for Clemson (6-2). Kansas 98, Alcorn St. 31 - Cole Aldrich had 13 points and 16 rebounds, and the top-ranked Jayhawks (6-0) scored 36 straight points in the first half in an embarrassingly easy victory over the winless Braves (0-10) in Lawrence, Kan. Kansas made quick work of the Braves, forcing a school record-tying 30 turnovers and dunking its way within one of the NCAA record for consecutive points with its big run. Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry had 18 points each, and Thomas Robinson had 15 points and 10 rebounds to help Jayhawks stretch the nation's longest home winning streak to 46 games. Alcorn State never stood much of chance against the nation's near-unanimous No. 1 team. Tennessee 78, East Tennessee State 66 - Tyler Smith scored 15 points as the No. 11 Volunteers (6-1) held off the scrappy Buccaneers (4-4) in Knoxville. Justin Tubbs led ETSU with 22 points. Connecticut 92, Boston University 64 - Jerome Dyson scored 22 points as the No. 14 Huskies (5-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a rout of the Terriers (2-6) in Hartford, Conn. John Holland led Boston University with 23 points, and Jake O'Brien added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Elsewhere: In a battle of ranked teams, No. 15 Ohio State (Evan Turner 25 points, Jon Diebler 22) bested No. 21 Florida State , 77-64, in Columbus, Ohio. . . . No. 17 Gonzaga edged Washington State , 74-69, in Spokane, Wash. . . . No. 19 Texas A&M topped Prairie View A&M , 84-59, in College Station, Tex. . . . No. 20 Louisville rolled over Stetson , 80-48, in Louisville. . . . No. 23 Butler disposed of Ball State , 59-38, in Muncie, Ind. . . . No. 24 UNLV needed two overtimes to put away Arizona , 74-72, in Tucson, Ariz. . . . In Coral Gables, Fla., Miami (Fla.) topped Minnesota , 63-58. . . . Host Pittsburgh needed two overtimes to dispatch Duquesne , 67-58. . . . Virginia Commonwealth edged Rhode Island, 82-80, in Richmond, Va. In games involving area teams, Chris McDevitt scored 15 points to lead Widener over Arcadia , 80-67. . . . James Jones had 19 points, including a three-pointer with five seconds left, to lift Delaware Valley over FDU-Florham , 73-72.
