--Colorado coach Jeff Bzdelik encountered some family difficulties to begin the season. He missed the Buffaloes' opener to attend a medical emergency involving his daughter. Then, after arriving in Lahaina, Hawaii, with his team for the Maui Invitational, Bzdelik left for Chicago to be with his ailing mother. Bzdelik missed the tournament, but was back on the bench for a Dec. 1 home game against San Francisco. Assistant Dave McClain, who guided Wyoming from 1998-2007, directed the Buffs in Bzdelik's absence.

--Through its first seven games, Colorado scored more than 70 points in each outing and also had four players score in double figures. The Buffs averaged just 62.9 points last season, including a 58.9-point average in Big 12 play.

--The seventh-place victory against Chaminade in the Maui Invitational was declared by the NCAA as an official road win for Colorado, ending the Buffs' 18-game road losing streak. However, their last true road win against a Division I opponent still stretches to Dec. 22, 2007, when they won at Colorado State.

KEY EARLY-SEASON CONFERENCE GAME: at Texas, Jan. 9 -â¿¿ Nothing like finding out just how you stack up with the best in the Big 12 right out of the chute. The Longhorns climbed to No. 2 in the rankings on Nov. 30, a spot behind Big 12 favorite Kansas. If Colorado continues to improve, it's possible it can catch Texas napping if the Longhorns are unaware of the Buffs' improvement. An upset, though doubtful, would be a tremendous statement.

LAST YEAR'S CONFERENCE RECORD: 1-15, 12th place in the Big 12.
