When forward Trey Thompkins decided not to transfer after the coaching change, but instead returned for his sophomore season at Georgia, it was seen as a big break for the Bulldogs and a boost for new coach Mark Fox.

Just how big we now see.

Thompkins was leading the Bulldogs in scoring at 15.0 points per game and rebounding at 7.8 per game through the first six games, and pretty much secured a 67-64 victory over Jacksonville State with a steal, assist and two free throws over the last two minutes.

Thompkins is getting help in scoring from sophomore Travis Leslie, who is averaging 11.8 points per game, and senior Ricky McPhee had a big game against North Carolina-Asheville with a career-high 20 points.

But it is obvious that if the Bulldogs are going to have an opportunity to improve on the three conference victories they had last season, they are going to have to have a healthy Albert Jackson.

Jackson was averaging under 10 minutes per game through November while recovering from a broken hand. He started for the first time against St. Louis, when he was scoreless but had four blocked shots in 18 minutes.
