Hounds finish strong in OT

COLUMN: AREA ROUNDUP COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL Assumption 97, AIC 91: Tim Beinert scored 19 points, and CourtlandBluford and Mike Baldarelli added 18 each to lead the host Greyhounds to a Northeast-10 victory in overtime. Assumption (4-1, 3-1 NE-10) led, 80-73, with 1:10 left after a Baldarelli free throw, but the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 4-1) rallied and tied the game on a layup by Isiah Wallace with 7 seconds to play. Ryan Rozsnaki (6 points, 10 assists) put Assumption in the lead tostay with a layup with 28 seconds left in overtime at 92-91. Bobby Harris (16 points, 10 rebounds) hit three free throws and Rozsnaki a pair in the final 10 seconds to ice the game. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Assumption 67, AIC 63: Gabrielle Gibson scored 19 points, Kayla Parker scored 12 and Katy Howard finished with 11 assists, 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals for the host Greyhounds (5-1, 3-1 Northeast-10), who closed the game on an 11-0 run. Kelly Meredith and Parker each grabbed a team-high seven rebounds,and Howard had six rebounds, her biggest coming with 1:02 left that led to her go-ahead 3-pointer with 50 seconds left. Parker hit two free throws with 17 seconds left, and Meredith pulled down a rebound, was fouled and hit a clinching free throw with sixseconds left. AIC (1-4, 1-4) led, 59-53, with 5:57 remaining, but a Gibson 3-pointer triggered a 14-4 run for the Hounds. AIC, plagued by poor shooting all night, hit just 1 of 22 from beyond the arc, while Assumption was 8 of 21 from 3-point range. Molly Griffiths chipped in nine points for Assumption. WPI 75, Smith 64: The host Engineers (4-2) used a 15-1 run to storm to a 43-25 halftime lead on their way to victory in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. Freshman Theresa Logan of Southboro came off the bench to lead WPIwith 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Melissa Kuhn finished with 8 points, 3 assists, 4 steals and a block, while Lauren Hannmann had 13 points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes. Clark 71, Wellesley 45: Senior Jill Camilleri of Lancaster finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds and the host Cougars (2-4) went on a29-6 run in the second half to win their NEWMAC opener. Freshman Kelsey Giedymin of Shrewsbury had 12 points and four rebounds and sophomore Kate Minister and senior Chloe Carden each scored 13, with Minister (6 assists) knocking down 4 of 7 from 3-point-rangeand Carden hitting all three of her attempts from beyond the arc. Clark shot 61 percent from the field in the second half. MEN'S HOCKEY Wentworth 4, Nichols 2: Zach Kohn scored a short-handed goal at 15:09 of the second to make it 3-1, and JoJo Bojanowski scored a power-play goal at 17:58 of the third period, but the host Bison (4-3-1, 1-2) fell to the undefeated Leopards (6-0-1) in ECAC Northeast action at Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I. WOMEN'S HOCKEY Sacred Heart 3, Nichols 1: Mary Fehr scored with 2:50 left as the host Bison (1-5) avoided the shutout in a non-conference road loss tothe Pioneers (2-9). PREP SCHOOL HOCKEY Northfield Mount Hermon 9, Worcester Acad. 3: Pat Harvey, Matt Kelly, Zach Gehring scored for the visiting Hilltoppers in the season opener for both teams.
