WHAT WE LEARNED IN NOVEMBER: Iowa State cruised to a 6-0 start before falling 67-65 against Northwestern at the Chicago Invitational. The second half brought back memories of some of the scoring funks the Cyclones experienced last season, including a 12-minute segment with just one field goal. These droughts should not plague the Cyclones so often with a future pro like F Craig Brackins in the lineup, as well as an outside threat like G Lucca Staiger. Defensive intensity must also improve.

DECEMBER AT A GLANCE: A Dec. 5 trip to California, followed by home games against Iowa and Bradley, will provide a nice sequence of tests for Iowa State, which opened with an easy schedule and mostly played home dates to help with the transition of newcomers such as F Marquis Gilstrap.

PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters â¿¿- F Craig Brackins, F Marquis Gilstrap, F Justin Hamilton, G Lucca Staiger, G Diante Garrett. Key Subs â¿¿- G Scott Christopherson, F Jamie Vanderbeken, G Charles Boozer, F LaRon Dendy.

ROSTER REPORT:

--F LaRon Dendy re-injured a tender right knee in a Nov. 27 win against St. Louis. He originally sprained the knee Nov. 16 and did not return until the St. Louis game. Dendy missed the Nov. 28 loss against Northwestern.

--F Marquis Gilstrap and F Craig Brackins both were battling bronchitis going into the Nov. 2 game against Northern Iowa.

--F Craig Brackins and G Lucca Staiger were each named to the all-tournament team at the Chicago Invitational.
