WHAT WE LEARNED IN NOVEMBER: UNLV can play defense -- great defense. No opponent shot better than 40 percent (Louisville shot exactly 40 percent) through the first six games, and the Rebels had 47 steals during that span with newcomer Chace Stanback leading the way with 13.

DECEMBER AT A GLANCE: The Rebels have been using 11 players, and solidifying roles is important prior to the start of conference season. Transfer Derrick Jasper has meshed well with Oscar Bellfield and Tre'Von Willis. Continuing that trend will go a long way toward UNLV competing for a conference title.

PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters -- F Chace Stanback, C Brice Massamba, G Tre'Von Willis, G Oscar Bellfield, PG Derrick Jasper. Key Subs -- G Justin Hawkins, G Anthony Marshall, F/C Matt Shaw, F/C Darris Santee, G Kendall Wallace, G Steve Jones.

ROSTER REPORT:

--Promising freshman C Carlos Lopez is redshirting and the Rebels hope he can add bulk to his 6-11, 205-pound frame.

--Sophomore F Quintrell Thomas could begin practicing with the team in January after undergoing shoulder surgery in August. Thomas is redshirting this season after transferring from Kansas.
