WHAT WE LEARNED IN NOVEMBER: Homecoming arrangements aren't always so sweet. Jeff Capel returned to Virginia Commonwealth, where he got his start as a head coach, and watched his Oklahoma squad get pounded 82-69. The humbling Nov. 21 defeat began a three-game losing streak for the Sooners, who were subsequently upset by San Diego and Houston in the Great Alaska Shootout.

DECEMBER AT A GLANCE: Maybe more time is needed for Oklahoma to get over the loss of the nation's best player last season, Blake Griffin. The Sooners knew they must rely on strong guard play, and have received solid production from a backcourt led by sophomore Willie Warren, but defense has been spotty. The 67-47 victory against Arkansas to begin the month was encouraging since OU took a 75-point defensive average into the game. Arizona, Utah and Gonzaga remain as tough nonconference tests.

PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters -â¿¿ F Tiny Gallon, G Tony Crocker, G Tommy Mason-Griffin, G Willie Warren, G Cade Davis. Key Subs â¿¿- F Ryan Wright, G Steven Pledger, C Orlando Allen.

ROSTER REPORT:

--G Tony Crocker recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds against Arkansas on Dec. 2. He netted consecutive 3-pointers to trigger a 20-5 run for the Sooners to close the first half.

--G Cade Davis scored just 15 points in the first four games, but was then promoted to a starter and scored 11 or more points in the three games he played after cracking the lineup.

--G Willie Warren suited up for the seventh-place game in the Great Alaska Shootout against Nicholls State, but did not play while dealing with an illness.
