WHAT WE LEARNED IN NOVEMBER: The Nittany Lions have talent but are very much a work in progress. They'll need time to figure out which lineup combinations work best, which players besides Talor Battle are ready to shoulder more of the scoring load and to find ways to get points when their perimeter shots aren't falling.

DECEMBER AT A GLANCE: Games on the first two Saturdays of the month -- Dec. 5 at Temple and Dec. 12 vs. Virginia Tech -- will provide the toughest challenges until the Nittany Lions open their Big Ten season at Minnesota on Dec. 29. Penn State must get its young players on the same page as its veterans on both ends of the floor and make sure Battle, who averages heavy minutes, is well-rested going into the conference slate.

PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters -- F David Jackson, F Andrew Jones, F Jeff Brooks, G Talor Battle, G Tim Frazier. Key Subs -- G Chris Babb, G/F Bill Edwards, F Andrew Ott, G Cammeron Woodyard

ROSTER REPORT:

--Freshman swingman Bill Edwards is slowly increasing his minutes as he recovers from a preseason knee injury. The 6-foot-5 left-hander, who is averaging 7.3 points in 16 minutes per game, has a smooth jumper and is able to create shots for himself and teammates.

--Junior guard Adam Highberger, a walk-on who had missed the majority of the last two seasons with knee injuries, is shelved again with a broken bone in his right, shooting hand. He had started the season with promise, averaging nine minutes per game and making 4-of-7 3-point attempts.

--Sophomore guard Chris Babb, a 3-point specialist, has connected on only 12 of his 39 attempts from the arc this season (31 percent). Compounding his troubles is that he's just 1-of-8 from 2-point range.
