Pitino delivers on tattoo promise
In the moments after Louisville won the NCAA championship earlier this month, coach Rick Pitino revealed that he had made his players a promise during the middle of the season: He would get a tattoo if they won it all.
It sounded like a nice gesture made to motivate his team, but it was also one that left many wondering, fairly, whether Pitino actually would go through with it — even after he went on a national morning show hours after Louisville cut down the nets.
"I said it ... not believing this was going to be a reality,” Pitino said of his promise during his "CBS This Morning" appearance on April 9. “But I am going to get it. I'm a man of my word. I'm going to get it on my left shoulder. It will be a cardinal and it will say ‘2013 champions.’ ”
Well, Pitino’s day of reckoning has finally come. He got it done at Tattoo Salvation, a parlor east of campus, and based on a couple of photos posted to Twitter by Louisville senior SID Kenny Klein on Friday, the tat actually looks pretty good:
And if you wanted proof that the man in the photo is actually Pitino, Klein’s got that too — along with a little hardware:
Pitino’s new ink was revealed less than 24 hours after he apparently pulled a fast one on a Louisville television station, telling it the tattoo was still in the works, but not imminent. And to hear him talk about it, he didn’t sound like he regretted the decision one bit:
Now we can only hope that it’s just a matter of time before Pitino’s arms start looking like Peyton Siva's. A Goldencents win at next weekend’s Kentucky Derby would seem like as good a reason as any to get a second tattoo.
