WHAT WE LEARNED IN NOVEMBER: Still to be determined. SIU is taking it slowly. It won three games at SIU Arena against weak-to-moderate competition. Its loss to UNLV is nothing to worry about. It appears SIU is improved, but nothing is certain until it plays more games. Fay's continued progress as a scoring threat is a good sign. So is steady production from C Nick Evans. Depth appears to be a plus.

DECEMBER AT A GLANCE: Three straight road games -- The schedule toughens, with two games of particular interest. SIU plays at Saint Louis (Dec. 5) in a game that is a big regional and recruiting rivalry. SIU travels to Las Vegas to play San Diego (Dec. 19). The Toreros own wins over Stanford, Oklahoma and Houston.

PLAYER ROTATION: Usual Starters -- PG Kevin Dillard, SG Tony Freeman, SF Justin Bocot, PF Anthony Booker and C Nick Evans. Key Subs -- F Carlton Fay, G Kendal Brown-Surles, F John Freeman.

ROSTER REPORT:

--Injuries are an issue in practice. Justin Bocot (eye), John Freeman (hamstring) and Tony Freeman (calf) are all in some sort of harm. None has missed a game. Lowery described John Freeman as day-to-day. He is being cautious with Tony Freeman's injury, a carryover from a stress fracture he suffered at Iowa earlier in his career. Bocot, poked against Illinois-Chicago, is expected to wear goggles and may miss some practice time to protect his right eye.

--C Nick Evans is the first Saluki taller than 6-10 (by an inch) since the 1995-96 season. He is making 63 percent of his shots and averages 9.8 points and 6.0 rebounds.
