First round: helped to a quick start, then saved the Cardinal with his late scoring. Lottich scored 17 points and hit a big 3-pointer with 49.7 seconds remaining, lifting fourth-seeded to a 77-69 victory over No. 13 San Diego on Thursday in the first round of the South Regional.

USD showed what kind of season it was headed for when Holland took his team into Pauley Pavilion to open the season and the Toreros pounded inside. The guys doing the pounding against the Bruins were the guys who did it against the opposition all season, 6-10 and 6-7 , each of whom is almost unstoppable 1-on-1 down low. Unsung hero: wasn¿t recruited heavily out of high school but, as a senior, has developed into one of the better guards in the West. The Weakest Link: The team¿s overall lack of quickness hurt it at times against non-conference opponents.
