Bryce Drew to take over at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind.
Bryce Drew, whose 1998 buzzer beater has become a lasting March Madness memory, will take over for his father, Homer, as head coach at Valparaiso University, the Indianapolis Star reported Monday.
In a widely expected move, sources told the paper that the 66-year-old will retire to allow his son to take the reins of the Crusaders. A formal announcement is expected at the Indiana school on Tuesday.
Bryce Drew, 36, has served as an assistant to his father for the last six seasons after playing six years in the NBA. But he is best remembered for the buzzer-beating three-pointer that gave Valparaiso a 70-69 win over Ole Miss in the first round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
Homer Drew has coached Valparaiso every season except one since 1988, compiling a record of 371-304, and a career coaching mark of 640-428. Another of Drew's sons, Scott, took over the program in 2002 before departing to Baylor University after one season.
The Crusaders have gone to the NCAA Tournament seven times under the elder Drew, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1998 after his son's heroics.
