Dog days for Butler's mascot
This is certainly the most heart-wrenching thing ever written "by a dog."
The Butler mascot, a 9-year-old bulldog named Blue II, is suffering from an irreversible heart disease. Blue II maintains a blog to share his "thoughts" and used that to share the tearful story of his diagnosis.
"It's maybe a little ironic for a dog that's been all heart for the last nine years to develop heart disease," he wrote, "but then again, it's probably no coincidence my heart has been maxed out."
Blue II is eating well and enjoying life, but likely wont be returning to the sideline.
Maybe now he'll have time to work on that novel about tennis balls he's always talked about.
It's been a tough week for dog mascots, by the way. Georgetown fired its bulldog mascot in-training, Jack, Jr., because after consulting with some professional trainers the school determined "returning to a home environment is what is best for J.J."
During the fall, J.J. injured a small child, which was a factor.
