Smith, who spent 2009-11 as Arkansas' special teams coordinator, takes over the Razorbacks for a 10-month period. Smith had been the head coach at Weber State -- his alma mater -- since December.

Chryst, the former offensive coordinator for the Wisconsin Badgers, takes over the head coaching duties for the Pitt.

The 39-year-old Levine replaces former boss, Kevin Sumlin, who left for the top job at Texas A&M. Before he was an assistant at Houston, Levine worked in the same capacity with the Carolina Panthers and the University of Louisville.

The longtime offensive coordinator accepted the head-coaching job at Hawaii. Chow, 65, spent the last two seasons with the Utah program and is a native of Honolulu.

Southern Miss swooped in on Johnson, 59, who spent the past four years with South Carolina in a defensive coordinator role. He replaces Larry Fedora, who left the job vacant when he decided to take the same position at North Carolina.

Leach returns to coaching after a two-year absence following his departure from Texas Tech. He's following Paul Wulff, who posted a 9-40 record with Washington State over four seasons before being fired in November.

Before being named the new UCLA head coach, his first such position at the college level, Mora led the Seattle Seahawks in 2009 but was fired after only one season. Mora takes over for the fired Rick Neuheisel.

McElwain joined the Alabama staff in 2008 and has served as offensive coordinator until accepting the Colorado State job. McElwain replaces Steve Fairchild, who was fired Dec. 4 after going 16-33 in four seasons with the Rams.

Molnar spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame under coach Brian Kelly and replaces ousted coach Kevin Moore, who leaves UMass with a 40-49 record after three seasons.

Sumlin takes over Texas A&M after posting a 35-17 record over four seasons at Houston, including a 12-0 start in 2011r before losing to Southern Miss in the Conference USA championship game. He replaces Mike Sherman, who was fired in December after four years with the school.

McGee takes over the UAB program after serving as an offensive coordinator at Arkansas. UAB's previous coach, Neil Callaway, spent five years at the helm before being fired in November with a 21-51 record.

Graham left his most current post, Pittsburgh, by telling his players via a text message sent out from the athletic department. Needless to say, the Panthers weren't very thrilled. Graham departs Pitt after one season and takes over an Arizona State program that fired Dennis Erickson after a 6-6 season.

Before taking over the top spot at Tulane, Johnson spent six seasons as the wide receivers coach for the New Orleans Saints, which included a Super Bowl XLIV win. Johnson's predecessor at Tulane, Bob Toledo, resigned in October after posting a 15-40 record over five seasons.

Freeze comes to Ole Miss after posting a 10-2 record with Arkansas State in 2011. He replaces Houston Nutt, who announced his resignation after a 24-26 record in four seasons.

DeRuyter spent the past two seasons as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M and was named interim when Mike Sherman was fired  DeRuyter replaces Pat Hill, who was let go after 15 seasons at Fresno State.

Malzahn, hailed as an offensive genius, returns to the state of Arkansas for his first crack at a college head coaching post. Malzahn, who spent time as offensive coordinator at Arkansas, Tulsa and most recently Auburn, was highly successful at Springdale (Ark.) High School from 2001-05 and has made an immediate impact in recruiting.

Meyer has Columbus excited after taking over the Buckeyes' top spot. He replaced interim coach Luke Fickell, who remains on staff as defensive coordinator. Fickell's one season at the helm included a 6-6 record and a spot in the 2012 Gator Bowl.

After spending four years coaching at Southern Mississippi, Fedora moves on to lead the UNC program.

Campbell served as Toledo's offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.

Davie leaves the broadcast booth behind and takes over the helm at New Mexico after most notably coaching five seasons at Notre Dame from 1997-2001. He replaces Mike Locksley, who was fired in September after posting a 2-26 record over three seasons.

Fuente replaces fired coach Larry Porter for the Tigers, was previously the offensive coordinator at TCU and helped lead the Horned Frogs to an undefeated season in 2010 and a Rose Bowl win in 2011.

Weis most notably spent five years leading the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But since his firing by the school in 2009, he was an offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs and Florida Gators. Weis replaces Turner Kill at Kansas.

Beckman took over the top spot at Illinois after spending three years as the head coach for the University of Toledo. He replaceed Ron Zook, who was fired after a 34-50 record during a seven-year career with the Illini.

Pelini takes over the top spot at FAU from Howard Schnellenberger, who retired at the end of the 2011 season. Pelini, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for Nebraska, is the younger brother of Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini.

Rodriguez takes over the Wildcats from Mike Stoops, who was fired in October. Rodriguez had spent three unsuccessful seasons at Michigan before he was axed.

Bowden leaves North Alabama — his coaching home since 2009 — to run the show at Akron. Terry Bowden also hired his dad Bobby's former defensive coordinator, Chuck Amato, to his Zips' coaching staff.

O'Brien, who most recently served as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, replaces the fired Joe Paterno. ''I am thrilled to be the head coach of the Penn State football program,'' O'Brien said.

Flood was named interim head coach after Greg Schiano accepted an offer to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Flood became the official head coach at Rutgers on Jan. 31. Flood, has been a member of Schiano's staff since 2005, coaching offensive linemen and working his way up to assistant head coach.
