'NCAA Football 10' doesn't disappoint

The " NCAA Football " series has been great for years, with the basic core of the game always solid and enough new features each year to keep it from getting stale. This year is one of the best yet, but the addition of the Season Showdown feature is enough to put it over the top, like Herschel Walker used to do against the Gators. What they're selling: From EA Sports - "' NCAA Football 10" brings the college football atmosphere to life with enhanced stadiums packed with school colors, cheerleaders and mascots." What we're telling: That's a good thing, and college football season can't get here fast enough unless you enjoyed seeing the T-U Sports section filled up with Tour de France features. The nut graph: You can play season after season as a single player or as a team, and there is a nice assortment of online options. As far as graphics and gameplay, it's only a slight tuneup from last year, but it nails the atmosphere and aura of college football - especially for the big games. With Season Showdown you are awarded points during every game in several categories (sacks, tackles and good plays get you Skill points, setting up the pass with the run can earn Strategy points, not running up the score can earn Sportsmanship points, etc.) and a running total is kept for as long as you play the game. The points you earn are uploaded to a team of your choice and the cumulative total is tracked online ... at press time Ohio State held a slim lead over Florida, mainly because gamers who chose Florida were at minus 3.5 million points on Sportsmanship. Naughty Gators. The concept invests you a little bit more in what was already a solid package, and it's the type of game that you can happily play for the next six months. Reason to smile: The depth of the Dynasty and Road to Glory modes is astounding. ... Teambuilder mode lets you build and micromanage a school from the ground up.
