On the night Florida receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Billy Gonzales decided to take a job at LSU, the Gators landed a high-profile commitment. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Cody Riggs pledged his services to UF cornerbacks coach Vance Bedford during an in-home visit on Thursday night, according to Rivals.com. The 5-foot-8, 156-pound Riggs is a four-star prospect ranked 105th overall in the nation by Rivals. He chose the Gators over Georgia and Tennessee. Riggs brings incredible speed to Florida's secondary. He ran the fastest 40-yard dash time at the U.S. Army All-American combine with a time of 4.43 seconds. SPURRIER WON'T REVEAL HEISMAN PICK South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said he's learned his lesson and won't reveal who he voted for to win the Heisman Trophy. Speaking with reporters in Birmingham, Ala., on Thursday, Spurrier said his Heisman ballot was secret, and he's keeping it that way. Spurrier said he's learned to keep his mouth shut after the flap earlier this year when he revealed he hadn't voted for Florida quarterback Tim Tebow to be on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference first-team squad. KIFFIN: NOT AWARE OF ANY RECRUITING VIOLATIONS Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin said he was not "aware" of any recruiting violations committed by himself, his assistants or support staff regarding the university's student ambassador program. "Myself and our staff take the rules and the bylaws of the NCAA and SEC extremely serious," Kiffin said. "We work extremely hard to follow those. In this situation right here, I don't know of any wrongdoing of any members of our staff in this or of the kids that are being questioned in this." ELSEWHERE Arkansas State offensive coordinator Doug Ruwse was fired after the Red Wolves struggled to a 4-8 season. Steve Roberts will return as head coach. ... Rob Ianello, a Notre Dame assistant coach, was introduced as Akron's new head coach. He replaces J.D. Brookhart, who was fired after Akron went 3-9 this season.
