Friends reunited

THE photograph in our June edition of the 1961 St Mary's College football team (sent in by Marek Olszowski) prompted John Barry, of Sheffield, to send us a few photos taken at a reunion of that same year group. John writes: The lads in the photo were all my classmates. We started at SMC in September, 1958, and some of us recently got together for a 50-year reunion at the Knights Club, in Southfield Road, Middlesbrough. Three dozen turned up, out of about 120, not bad after 50 years! One came from as far as Brisbane, Australia, and others from various parts of the UK. Apologies were received from China and America! Agreat evening was had by all, remembering the characters, the escapades and the punishments, and drinking to absent friends. We plan to do it again sometime, hopefully with an even bigger turn-out now that we''ve re-established contact and the news spreads. I''m also sending the full school photograph from 1962, which you can see in one of the reunion photos ( 3) Andrew Lombard pointing to,accompanied by Lawrence Rovardi and Andrew Burns. In the large groupphoto (no. 6) taken at the reunion (most had left by this time in the evening), there are: seated left to right, Jim Smith and Andrew Lombard; standing left to right, John Boagey (came from Australia), JohnBarry, Nigel Nicholson, Barry Warrington, Peter Duggan, Mike Westwood, Ken Bleasby, Bruce Leeks, David Lindridge, Andrew Burns and Ian Butler. Photo 5 shows, left to right: Vin Gunn, Bill Whittingham and Mike McCamley. Photo 4, seated, left to right: Ian Butler, Frank Conway (in the football team photo also) and Mick Carr (ex-leader of Middlesbrough Council). Photo 2, left to right: Ken Davies, Bruce Leeks (in the football team photo) and David Lindridge; No 1, left to right: Jim Fitzgerald, Jim Smith, Nicky Stokeld and John Boagey. I'm living in Sheffield now but my mam (91 and still going strong)always keeps copies of Remember When for me to read and keep - I've got them going back years! when I visit her in Park End. I always thoroughly enjoy the stories and the old photographs, and particularly the occasional gem like that one of the fantastic college football team of 1961! Keep up the good work, it's much appreciated.
