Henry a force at linebacker

Lining up just five yards from the quarterback, Trayvon Henry must be a signal-caller's nightmare. The Millwood middle linebacker already has the look of a Division I tackling machine. At 6-2, 220 pounds with 4.6 speed, Henry is the ideal combination of size and speed for a Division I linebacker. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Kansas, Arkansas, and Colorado State have noticed his talents, all extending a scholarship offer to the Millwood senior to be. With several highly sought-after recruits in the state, Henry has been overshadowed thus far in the recruiting process. "I feel like I rank among the top (players in the state)," Henry said. "I'm not saying I'm first, but I'm around the top." And his numbers back up that claim. Henry had 160 tackles as a junior to lead the Falcons in tackles. "He has everything you want at that position," Star Spencer coach Darrell Hall said. "Ever since he stepped on the field (for Millwood), I noticed him." While his size/speed ratio is unique, what separates Henry from other talented linebackers is his ability to read plays, accelerate to the ball and make a solid one-on-one tackle. "It's instinct," he said. "The first thing I see, I go." The Millwood standout watches football games closely to see how other linebackers make plays. Former OU linebacker Curtis Lofton was one linebacker he's watched carefully over the years, as is current OU linebacker Travis Lewis. "When I watch football on TV," Henry said. "I watch the linebackers to see how they do technique, get to the ball and take on blockers." While his ability to handle the running game is his forte, Henry admits he'll have to work on his pass coverage to become an elite linebacker. Especially with college football's recent love affair with the spread offense. "I need to work on footwork and pass coverage," he said. "I'm not used to pass coverage (playing in) Class 2A." Most importantly, Henry has recognized football can help him accomplish a lot of things on and off the field. "After I got my first (Division I) looks," Henry said. "I realized I could go far in football."
