Florida assistant Strong heading to Louisville Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is headed to Louisville to be the Cardinals' head coach. Louisville hired Strong Wednesday to help revitalize a program that sagged under former coach Steve Kragthorpe, signing him to a five-year contract that will pay him a base salary of $1.6 million a year. Strong's sturdy defenses helped Florida win two national championships and for most of the past decade he has been considered a potential head coach. Gator Bowl adds seats for Bowden's finale The Gator Bowl is adding extra seats for Bobby Bowden's finale. Two days after the bowl announced a sellout for its Jan. 1 game between Florida State and No. 18 West Virginia, organizers decided to add temporary bleachers at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The bleachers will provide an extra 6,000 seats, with the tickets getting split evenly between the schools. Bowden announced last week that the bowl game would be his last. Carpenter to coach football at Capital Jon Carpenter was approved Monday to fill the head football coaching vacancy at Capital High during the Kanawha County Board of Education's regular meeting. Jack Woolwine resigned his post at Capital a week after the Cougars lost to George Washington in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs Nov. 13. He ended a nine-year tenure with a 57-42 record. Carpenter, recommended to the board by Capital Principal Clinton Giles, served as an assistant coach on Woolwine's staff from 2007-09. Carpenter, 33, has nearly 15 years of coaching experience with stops at Riverside and the University of Charleston. Moss, three LBs miss Patriots practice Randy Moss and three key New England Patriots missed practice Wednesday, and coach Bill Belichick declined to elaborate on their absence. Moss and linebackers Adalius Thomas, Gary Guyton and Derrick Burgess were sent home after showing up late for an 8 a.m. team meeting. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went to work the day after his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, gave birth to their son. - from staff, wire reports
