Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford has been named the Big 12 Conference's male athlete of the year. As a redshirt sophomore in 2008, Bradford won the Heisman Trophy, given to the nation's best college football player, and the Davey O'Brien Trophy, awarded to the nation's best quarterback. The Big 12 award is selected by a panel of media based solely on an athlete's performance in the 2008-09 season. This year, for the first time, fan voting on Big12Sports.com was included in the award's final tally. Bradford led the nation with 50 touchdown passes, and chose to forgo the NFL Draft and return to Oklahoma for his junior season. Texas volleyball and track star Destinee Hooker was named Big 12 female athlete of the year.
