Redd Player of Year finalist

King's Redd a finalist for Player of the Year Running back Silas Redd of King School is one of seven finalists for the U.S. Army National High School Player of the Year Award. The Penn State-bound Redd as well as Penn St.-bound Stamford High linebacker Khairi Fortt were among the 30 semifinalists for the award. Among the six other finalists are three players -- running back Dillon Baxter, wide receiver Kyle Prater and wide receiver Robert Woods -- who have all committed to USC. Redd, as part of the Army Player of the Year Tour, will spend Sunday through Tuesday in New York City. On the tour Redd will be recognized during Sunday night's NFL game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles and will be interviewed on ESPN2's "First Take" TV show. The U.S. Army Player of the Year award will be presented on Jan. 8 in San Antonio, the day before the 10th Army All-American Bowl (Jan. 9, 1 p.m., NBC-TV). Redd and Fortt will be playing. Hanratty, Robinson get national combine chance WHARTON, N.J. -- Conor Hanratty of New Canaan High School and Shawn Robinson of Trinity Catholic have been selected to participate in the 2010 U.S. Army National Combine, joining an elite group of the nation's best underclassmen. The combine will take place from Jan. 7-9, during the "Bowl Week" festivities leading up to the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 1 p.m. and will feature the nation's top 90 high school football players. The three-day event, held annually in association with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, is the first opportunity for the nation's top underclassmen to demonstrate their physical talent and compete against one another amongst high school and college football's top scouting organizations, as well as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which features Tom Lemming and Rivals.com . Modeled after the NFL combine, all combine tests and competitive drills will take place in the Alamodome. Athletes will receive apparel and gear at the event. In addition, athletes will receive lunch, bus transportation, and a ticket to attend the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
