Round Lake’s 3rd Hall of Fame class set

Round Lake Senior High School has announced its third Hall of Fame class.

The class includes former linebacker/running back Dallas Bassett, who led the Panthers to their last playoff appearance in 2001, and former basketball star Jenny Maleug, who helped the Panthers win the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division championship in 2000-01.

Other members to be inducted are: Mark Wilson ( football, Class of 1981), Glenn McDermott (wrestling, 1975), Jerry Chapman (wrestling, 1988), Frank Ptak (basketball, 1987), Jim Neuman (baseball, 1965), Bill Thomas (cross country, 1987), Larry Reinhofer (track), Dave Channel (coach), Dr. Robert Sherman (administrator), Ron Schmidt (friends of the Panthers, Panther Pushers) and the 1980 football team.

The banquet and induction ceremony will take place May 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center.

Taylor-made effort: John Taylor (Stevenson) and his St. Norbert men?s basketball teammates won the Midwest Conference tournament championship last Saturday, clinching the Green Knights? first NCAA Division III tournament berth since 2002 and only the third in school history.

St. Norbert will host Hope College in a first-round Division III game at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point today.

The Green Knights will carry a 22-3 record into the game, the most single-season wins in school annals. The NCAA berth completes a major turnaround that began with the arrival of Taylor?s class.

Bartman makes splash: Gannon University goalie Janelle Bartman (Stevenson) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association rookie of the week for her performance at the Chapman Invitational. Bartman made 26 saves in four matches, including 4 stops in Gannon?s first victory of the season.
