Report: Gators lose top recruit to Florida State

Scout.com's No. 1 ranked safety and top Florida recruit Matt Elam has switched his commitment to Florida State, according to a report Thursday.
Elam told the Palm Beach Post that coach Urban Meyer's resignation Saturday, which he amended to a leave of absence Sunday, played heavily in his decision to go to the Seminoles.
“I feel like he knew before Saturday that he wanted to step down,” Elam said on the Post's Web site. “He could have at least called and told me.
“If our relationship was really that strong, he would have called me and told me, ‘OK Matt, I’m not feeling good and I think I want to step down.’ Then he wanted to come back the next day. I don’t get it.”
However, the situation at Florida State is a little unclear too. Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher takes over for legendary coach Bobby Bowden next season and how Fisher will lead the program remains to be seen.
Elam had committed to Florida as a junior, according to the Post.
