Report: Ex-Pitt lineman Diaz arrested
Diaz, a redshirted freshman who had previous run-ins with the law and left the team last year amid a host of discipline problems for the Panthers, was obstructing traffic in the Pittsburgh suburb of Oakland Saturday night, according to the report.
A man who claimed to be a teammate told Diaz to calm down and accept his citation, cautioning him that Dave Wannstedt was no longer the coach, and new coach Todd Graham would come down hard on him.
Police said Diaz refused to cooperate and began swinging at them when they tried to handcuff him. Police Tased the 6-foot-2, 280-pounder four times before subduing him.
The arrest coincides with a Sports Illustrated report that Pitt, under Wannstedt, had more players in trouble with the law than any other team that began last season in the Top 25.
Diaz reportedly hoped to rejoin the team for spring practices, but Pitt sports information director E.J. Borghetti said that, "in light of recent events," he will not be rejoining the team.
