USC's top receiver decides to go pro

Damian Williams announced Friday that he'll forego his final season of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft.
"It was a difficult decision, but I am blessed to have some great people around me to counsel me, including my family and Coach Carroll," Williams said in a statement.
“The NFL has been a dream of mine since I can remember and I feel that it is my time to take this step to the next level. I am proud to have earned my degree from USC, and that was an extremely important part of this decision for me and my family."
USC's team MVP in 2009, Williams had 70 receptions for 1,010 yards and six touchdowns. He made the All-PAC-10 first team as a wide receiver and punt returner, and also was a third-team All-American as a receiver.
Williams returned two punts for touchdowns and averaged 14.2 yards per return in 2009. He was the Emerald Bowl Offensive MVP thanks to a 12-catch, 189-yard performance.
A transfer from Arkansas, Williams played just two seasons at USC, catching 128 passes.
Williams joins tailback Joe McKnight in leaving USC with eligibility remaining. Several other Trojan underclassmen also may declare for the draft. And Carroll, the program's longtime head coach, is reportedly being targeted by the Seattle Seahawks.
