A brief look at Thursday's 11th stage of the 99th Tour de France:

Stage: The hardest Alpine stage in the Tour de France, a 92-mile ride from Albertville to the La Toussuire ski resort. Riders tackled three huge ascents in the stage totaling at least 40 miles of climbs, over two of the most grueling mountains in pro cycling, plus a nasty uphill finish.

Winner: Pierre Rolland of France, who claimed his second career Tour stage win and made it two in a row for his French Europcar team after Thomas Voeckler won on Wednesday. Another Frenchman, Thibaut Pinot, was second, 55 seconds behind. Christopher Froome of Britain was third, clocking the same time as Pinot.

Yellow Jersey: Bradley Wiggins extended his grip on the leader's jersey, as defending champ Cadel Evans succumbed on the final climb and dropped to fourth place overall, 3:19 behind Wiggins. Wiggins teammate Christopher Froome sits in second place 2:05 behind his team leader, while Italy's Vincenzo Nibali finished alongside Wiggins to keep his 2:23 deficit to the yellow jersey.

Stat of the day: 1:26. The time Australia's Cadel Evans conceded to rival Wiggins at the finish line, after he couldn't keep the pace on the final climb into La Toussuire.

Quote of the day: ''Before he lost contact I was saying `Hey if you have the legs you should go because Wiggins is looking a little isolated.' And then next thing you know he was coming off the back and I was like `Oh man, this wasn't the plan.''' American Tejay van Garderen on team leader Cadel Evans.

Friday's stage: The race stays in the Alps with a 140-mile ride from Saint-Jean-De-Maurienne to Annonay Davezieux.
