Mauer will make a full-time move to first base in 2014, Twins Director of Communications Dustin Morse reports. Additionally, Mauer is now free of concussion symptoms, Fox Sports North's Tyler Mason reports.
Mauer and the team made the announcement Monday morning, which considering his recent injury history and that the Twins still have him locked up to a costly long-term deal through 2018 is probably a wise decision to ensure their franchise player's long-term health. It's conceivable that Mauer will establish himself as a premier defender with full-time efforts focused on the new position, while his eligibility behind the plate in most leagues figures to go away after the 2014 campaign.
