Ryan Vogelsong took a fastball off of his throwing hand during an at-bat Monday and will likely miss 6-8 weeks. In the postgame press conference manager Bruce Bochy said that Gaudin is one of the candidates to fill his rotation spot. Gaudin has posted a 2.10 ERA over 25.2 innings as the Giants' long reliever this season. He has had experience as a starter in past, but his last start dates back to 2009 with the Yankees.
