Jun 7 6:18aThornton took the loss against the A's on Thursday after he allowed a 10th-inning home run to Adam Rosales.
ImpactThornton skated through his first two outs of the 10th, but Rosales took him deep on a misplaced 0-2 fastball. Thornton's pitches have been less deceptive this year than we have been accustomed to. He is striking out a career-low 5.1 batters per nine and opposing batters are swinging (and missing) much less frequently. It does not help that his fastball velocity has continued its downward trend, sitting at 94.1 mph this season, versus roughly 96 for much of his dominance in the mid-to-late 2000s.
