In explaining his lineup choices Wednesday, manager Don Mattingly said he intended to "put out my most competitive lineup" against the Brewers, the Orange County Register reports.

That lineup included Scott Van Slyke in place of Ethier in right field, despite the fact that Ethier has historically mashed right-handed pitchers such as opposing starter Wily Peralta. With the Dodgers also toying with the idea of bringing up prospect Yasiel Puig in recent days, it doesn't seem as though the team's brain trust is losing confidence in Ethier's ability to be a difference-maker offensively.
