Saltalamacchia has signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Marlins, FOX Sports reports.
Saltalamacchia enjoyed a career year in numerous statistical categories for the title-winning Red Sox, which made him one of the top available catchers when this offseason began. A South Florida native, Saltalamacchia should instantly help a Marlins offense that lacked power hitting last season. Further, the catcher improved his defensive play in 2013, committing just six errors in 1,004 innings played in the field. In all, it appears to be a solid deal for both parties, since the player desired a longer-term deal and Miami needed more pop at the plate.
