McDonald (shoulder) could throw a bullpen session as soon as Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink reports.

McDonald has been throwing off flat ground and is making progress, but it seems that he is at least a few weeks away from returning. The Pirates won't necessarily have a spot in the rotation reserved for McDonald, who produced a 5.76 ERA and 25:20 K:BB in six starts before he was placed on the disabled list.
