Quintanilla was non-tendered by the Mets on Monday, making him a free agent, Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports.
With the Mets pursuing upgrades at the shortstop position this offseason, they opted to non-tender Quintanilla. In 95 games mainly at shortstop, he hit .222/.306/.283 with two home runs and 21 RBI. He is capable of playing both middle infield positions, as well as third base, and will likely catch on with a team in a backup defensive role or on a minor league deal prior to Spring Training.
