Maybin emerged from Friday's right wrist surgery fine, but in the process, a bit more cleanup was required, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. "A little more was done in the wrist and joint than expected," manager Bud Black stated. "Cameron had some action going on in the joint. There were loose particles and loose cartilage in the joint. Going in, we didn't know what to find."
The wrist begin troubling Maybin in the latter portion of the 2011 season, and now that the presumed source of the ailment has been discovered and remedied, some semblance of a clean bill of health may be sustained going forward. In the short term, the outfielder will embark upon an 8-to-12-week recovery period, which may affect his attempt to play winter ball in preparation for the 2014 campaign.
