Mujica agreed to a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Red Sox on Thursday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.
The rich get richer with this signing, because while Mujica struggled at the end of last season and lost his job as closer for St. Louis, he still posted strong numbers overall (2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP). Mujica doesn't overpower hitters (6.4 K/9), but he has pinpoint control (0.7 BB/9) and plenty of experience pitching in high-leverage situations. He'll bridge the gap to Koji Uehara next season.
