Despite Locke's second-half struggles, Pirates GM Neal Huntington said Sunday that he expects him to be a big part of the 2014 rotation.
Huntington noted that the Pirates probably wouldn't have made the playoffs without Locke's first-half showing, prior to debuts by Francisco Liriano and Charlie Morton, plus injuries to A.J. Burnett and Wandy Rodriguez. Locke entered 2013 as a fifth-starter dark horse and has his work cut out for him heading into next year. Huntington said Locke wore down and lost confidence after getting hit harder as the season went along.
