Montero has suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and will miss the next 4-to-6 weeks, MLB.com reports.
Montero was sent down to Triple-A Tacoma on May 23, after the Mariners deemed him unable to take on catching duties in the majors. He was expected to work at first base and DH to regain some of his lost potential at the plate, but the recent development certainly sets back his progress on that front. The injury, which requires surgery next week, should keep him out of commission through June, though a return in mid-July seems like the most logical scenario.
