Even with the injury to Curtis Granderson, Mesa couldn't work his way into the mix as a backup outfielder, as the team opted to hang onto Brennan Boesch and Ben Francisco as reserves. Mesa, 26, didn't fare well in his first season at Triple-A, so he'll head back for further seasoning with an eye on joining the team as a September call-up.
