Atkins signed a minor league contract with the Braves on Monday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Braves assigned him to Double-A Mississippi.

Impact
Atkins, who made 10 big league appearances (three starts) between the Cubs and Orioles from 2009-2011, has been pitching this season for the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League (independent). He'll provide the Braves some organizational bullpen depth, but it's hard to see Atkins making the big club anytime soon.
