Apr 18 7:49aShoppach could get more playing time in the coming weeks for the struggling Jesus Montero, the Seattle Times reports.
ImpactShoppach started four the last seven games as manager Eric Wedge played matchups. He said there will be more of that. "We're going to mix and match with that for awhile," Wedge said. Shoppach has seven hits in 18 at-bats with a homer and two doubles. His value to the team, though, comes in his ability behind the plate, which has always been better than Montero's. Prospect Mike Zunino looms on the horizon, but Shoppach, who played for Wedge in Cleveland, is an experienced backup and likely not going anywhere.
