Apr 23 9:11aPaxton was hammered for six runs on eight hits and three walks over just 1.2 innings against Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. He did not strike out a single batter.
ImpactAfter his last start, a six-inning, two-hit shutout of Fresno, there was hope that things were finally clicking for Paxton who seemed to be struggling at the Triple-A level. He was 9-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 110 strikeouts over 106.1 innings at Double-A last season, but has now allowed 12 earned runs over 16.1 innings (four starts) and has failed to get past the fifth inning in three of them. The Mariners have plenty of young, talented arms right now, so if things don;t click for him soon, he could find his way back to the Southern League for some additional work.
