Due to the injury to Josh Hamilton, Kendrick will serve as the cleanup hitter Saturday against the Mets, the Los Angeles Times reports.
In 903 career games, the 30-year-old second baseman has batted fourth just 12 times. Nonetheless, manager Mike Scioscia likes the idea of using Kendrick, a right-handed bat, in the cleanup spot against lefties, while he'll opt to use a left-handed batter -- like Raul Ibanez -- against right-handed pitchers. Kendrick is in line for extra RBI opportunities in the four-spot with sluggers Mike Trout and Albert Pujols batting directly ahead of him in the order.
