Pelfrey (elbow) doesn't think he'll be able to build up his pitch count enough to start again this season, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
It's not even a sure thing that Pelfrey will be able to return this season, as his top priority is heading into the offseason with no elbow issues, but pitching out of the bullpen in September is a possibility. He said he feels good now and has no numbness or tingling in his right arm, and he hopes to begin playing catch by the end of July. Sept. 3 is the tentative date for his first bullpen session. With a return this season up in the air for Pelfrey, and a return to the starting rotation all but ruled out, he's safe to drop in almost all single-season leagues.
