Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31361681 Stud - Brandon Marshall vs JAX Stud+-+Brandon+Marshall+vs+JAX Fantasy Football

No question, the Bears' DEF/ST deserves "Stud" honors this week (two more pick sixes), too, but Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall brought back some great fantasy football memories in Week 5.  The duo seemed to only have eyes for each other against Jacksonville.  Marshall was targeted 17 times (no other Bears' receiver had more than four), caught 12 balls for 144 yards and scored his third touchdown of the season.  Cutler (and CHI offensive line) poses a lot of risk to Marshall's fantasy value, but when the two are on the same page, there are few better tandems in the NFL. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31361694 Stud - Rams DST vs ARI Stud+-+Rams+DST+vs+ARI Fantasy Football

The St. Louis Rams' defense bloodied Kevin Kolb's lip on Thursday night (makes me think of Clark Kent in the diner "Blood?  That's my blood.").  Robert Quinn picked up three sacks and six other teammates took Kolb to the turf for a grand total of nine sacks.  The unit finished with 18 fantasy points.  When it comes to St. Louis, who lost PPR machine Danny Amendola for the immediate future, fantasy football highlights are few and far between. Tip o' the cap to them. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31362273 Stud* - Reuben Randle vs CLE Stud*+-+Reuben+Randle+vs+CLE Fantasy Football

This may be a stretch, but it's more a "heads up" than a "stud" promotion.  Let's face it, Hakeem Nicks is banged up and may not play at 100 percent this season even if/when he does return.  If Reuben Randle produces like he did versus Cleveland, team-high six receptions for 82 yards, he could find more time in three receiver sets along with Domenik Hixon (who I like more ROS) and Ramses Barden (when healthy).  Manning will find the open receiver and it's why owners should suggest heading back to the waiver wire to take a look at Randle (I know a lot of owners, present company included, that drafted and dropped Randle already). - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31361702 Stud - Ahmad Bradshaw vs CLE Stud+-+Ahmad+Bradshaw+vs+CLE Fantasy Football

After finding their team in an early 14-0 hole, the Giants' offense quickly realized they could score on Browns whenever they felt like it.  Eli Manning tossed three touchdown passes to Victor Cruz, but Ahmad Bradshaw reinvented himself in Week 5 with 30 carries for 200 yards and a touchdown.  Only a few weeks ago, owners were ready to pass the torch to Andre "I've been with eight different teams" Brown.  Well, Brown left Sunday's game with a concussion.  Meanwhile, Bradshaw solidified his spot, once again, atop the Giants' running back depth chart.  This doesn't mean owners should expect similar results in Week 6 and beyond, just that he's top dog in the New York backfield. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31361685 Dud - BenJarvus Green-Ellis vs MIA Dud+-+BenJarvus+Green-Ellis+vs+MIA Fantasy Football

You may be wondering why the image to the left is of "The Law Firm" rushing against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Bengals Week 4 opponent.  Funny story.  It's because BenJarvus Green-Ellis was AWOL most of Week 5.  He carried the ball nine times for 14 yards without a touchdown.  His average yards per carry (YPC) over the past four games has been: 3.6, 2.2, 3.2, 1.6.  Those are not stats indicative of a number one back in Cincinnati.  Bernard Scott actually performed better (five carries for 40 yards) than BGE before Scott left with a knee injury.  Green-Ellis is no better than a RB3 moving forward. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31362262 Stud - Tony Gonzalez vs WAS Stud+-+Tony+Gonzalez+vs+WAS Fantasy Football

Guess who leads all fantasy football tight ends in scoring through the first five games (minus MNF)?  That would be Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez.  Let me rephrase that, 36-year-old, ageless wonder, who drinks from the Fountain of Youth, Tony Gonzalez leads all fantasy tight ends in scoring with 44.5 points.  Against the Redskins, Gonzo caught 13 of the 14 balls thrown at him for 123 yards and his fourth touchdown.  Even with several solid fantasy options at the position this season, Gonzo is a must-start each week. Don't overthink it. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31362266 Stud - Reggie Wayne vs GB Stud+-+Reggie+Wayne+vs+GB Fantasy Football

You know how NFL analysts stress that quarterbacks look off the defense as to not hone in on one receiver?  I don't think Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne received that memo, that or it doesn't matter.  Wayne was targeted 18 times in Week 1, seven times in Week 2, 15 times in Week 3 and 20 times in Week 5.  Are you kidding me?  Luck hit Wayne 13 times for 212 yards and a touchdown against the Packers.  It's Wayne's best fantasy day since 2006 (138 yards, three TDs vs DEN).  Wayne is a must-start moving forward as a WR2.  - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31361688 Dud - Joe Flacco vs KC Dud+-+Joe+Flacco+vs+KC Fantasy Football

Are we not playing the "Joe Flacco is an elite quarterback" card this week?  After back-to-back strong fantasy performances, Flacco laid an egg for those who bought into the hype.  He finished with 187 passing yards, no touchdowns and an interception against Kansas City in what turned out to be an offensive struggle for both teams.  He may win games for Baltimore, but fantasy owners shouldn't trust the ebbs and flows in his statistical output. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31357048 Stud - Andrew Luck vs GB Stud+-+Andrew+Luck+vs+GB Fantasy Football

I had a feeling Andrew Luck was in store for a big fantasy day against the Packers.  However, my theory stemmed from him accumulating garbage fantasy points with Green Bay up 21 in the fourth.  Instead, Luck erupted for a 32.9-point (league average) fantasy day as he engineered a fourth-quarter comeback.  The rookie quarterback finished 31-55 (yikes) for 362 yards, two touchdowns, one interception as well as 24 rushing yards with a score.  It may not be pretty at all times (i.e. - his completion percentage), but Luck is making a strong case to become a fantasy starter each week. - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31362260 Dud - Cam Newton vs SEA Dud+-+Cam+Newton+vs+SEA Fantasy Football

When I was in elementary school (Hickory Ridge represent), my classmates found great value in trading their sweetest confection for a new chip to hit the market*.  Right now, I would take a baggy full of those electric-orange-salty snacks in exchange for one Cameron Jerrell Newton.  The peaks and valleys owners will experience the rest of the season with Newton at the helm will force most to reach for a bottle of the pink stuff* (*sponsors wanted).  Against Seattle in Week 5, I thought because the Seahawks had to travel East back-to-back weeks, their stout defense would suffer.  I was wrong.  Newton finished with 141 passing yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions and 42 yards rushing.  Pass me the electric orange chips! - Ryan Fowler

Fantasy Football 2186 43 Week 5 fantasy football studs and duds 31362274 Stud - Alfred Morris vs ATL Stud+-+Alfred+Morris+vs+ATL Fantasy Football

As one of my suggested starts of the week, I was glad Alfred Morris came through for fantasy owners in Week 5.  When it comes to fantasy running backs, all owners really want (whether they know it or not) is consistency.  The high yardage totals and touchdowns are perks, but to know you can plug in a running back and know he is going to produce each and every week is pure bliss.  Morris has accomplished that through the first five games of his career with his third game of 95 or more rushing yards.  He may not be a RB1, but Morris is, *gasp*, reliable in a Mike Shanahan backfield.  If RG3 is to miss time due to injury (concussion), expect Morris to reap the benefits of more touches during the game. Not bad for an undrafted fantasy running back. - Ryan Fowler
