Roger Rotter Fantasy Football Chat(09/15/2009)
3:01 FOX Fantasy:  Hi everyone! Roger Rotter is here to answer your fantasy football questions.
3:05 FOX Fantasy:  A reader asks: Are Warner and Cutler as bad as they look?
3:06 Roger Rotter:  No. Warner will rebound, especially when Anquan Boldin's health improves.
3:07 Roger Rotter:  As far as Cutler, he nearly had two touchdown passes as Johnny Knox was called out-of-bounds. Green Bay's defense looked one of the best in Week 1, so most QBs would have struggled in that noisy environment.
3:08 Roger Rotter:  He'll be a good start against weak defenses like Detroit in the division. If Chicago's defense gives a lot of points without Brian Urlacher, then Cutler will be forced to throw early and often.
3:09 Roger Rotter:  Regardless, interceptions are overrated in fantasy. I'd rather have a fantasy quarterback who throws for 300 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions than a quarterback who passes for 200 yards and one touchdown.
3:10 FOX Fantasy:

Steve asks: Are reggie bush and steve slaton going to viable fantasy options this year?

3:12 Roger Rotter:  Yes. Bush had a touchdown taken away from him inside the 10-yard line because of a holding penalty, so he will still see goal-line carries. He received less touches because New Orleans was comfortable ahead for most of the game. He'll be valuable in reception leagues and will be a competent No. 2 or 3 fantasy running back.
3:14 Roger Rotter:  Slaton will perform better than the opener. The Jets defense is tough, so he'll do better against weaker defenses like Jacksonville, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
3:16 FOX Fantasy:  Marty asks: Andre Johnson is my starter, new one more receiver-DeShaun Jackson of Phi, Chris Henry of Cin, or Eddie Royal of Den ... also is Pierre Thomas a safe play as my RB2 this week?
3:18 Roger Rotter:  For now, I'd start Eddie Royal at home against Cleveland. If McNabb plays, then DeSean Jackson would be a solid start as well. I'd wait on Pierre Thomas to see if he will play.
3:18 FOX Fantasy:  Brent asks: Who's a better play this week: Michael Bush or Chester Taylor?
3:21 Roger Rotter:  Good question. I'd go with Michael Bush as he is sharing time with Darren McFadden. Kansas City's run defense looked poor with all three Baltimore RBs playing strong.
3:22 Roger Rotter:  Chester Taylor is a nice sleeper as well.   It's expected that he'll receive some carries if Minnesota jumps comfortably ahead of Detroit. But Minnesota almost provided Detroit its first victory last year when it won just 12-10.
3:23 FOX Fantasy:  A reader asks: Roger I have both C. Henry and B. Berrian in a 12-man league, both let me down. Are there and up and coming guys you think i should pick up to drop either of them?
3:24 Roger Rotter:  I'd keep both for now. Green Bay allowed a couple of big plays downfield, so Henry could bounce back, especially if Cincinnati falls behind fast in Week 2.
3:26 Roger Rotter:  Minnesota won comfortably behind Adrian Peterson, but Berrian will still post solid games as a fantasy No. 3 WR with Brett Favre facing eight-man fronts.
3:28 Roger Rotter:  Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson are attractive options to pick up. I would claim one of them to replace a backup fantasy No. 4 or 5 WR.
3:30 Roger Rotter:  They will be worth starting against soft defenses like Detroit. However, next week's foe Philadelphia is a tough matchup for Meachem and Henderson to post 100-yard games with a TD on the road.
3:31 [Comment From Jason ]
Are you worried about Carson Palmer? I'm afraid he might not have the time in the pocket to be effective.
3:36 Roger Rotter:  I still have Palmer as a fantasy backup quarterback. I think he will connect with his Cincy receivers enough to make them fantasy starters in favorable matchups.
3:37 Roger Rotter:  Of note, I had Chad ochocino and Coles as only No. 3 fantasy receivers in my draft rankings, so the days of them being top 10 wideouts appear gone for now.
3:37 FOX Fantasy:  Chris asks: Should I sell on Steven Jackson and Brandon Jacobs? Or, will their seasons improve?
3:38 Roger Rotter:  No. You won't likely receive equal value commiserate with their first-round draft pick status.
3:38 Roger Rotter:  It's too early to panic on stars like Jacobs and Jackson who appear to be in good health.
3:40 Roger Rotter:  Jacobs will rebound against Dallas (which made Cadillac Williams look like the next Emmitt Smith).
3:41 Roger Rotter:  I would be worried about LaDainian Tomlinson who apparently injured his anke in the opener. He may have a repeat of last season.
3:41 Roger Rotter:  San Diego also had a couple of OL injured as well.
3:42 FOX Fantasy:  Bryan asks: Was Willis McGahee's week 1 performance a fluke? Does Baltimore really plan to keep giving him the ball in the Red Zone?
3:44 Roger Rotter:  Baltimore was fortunate that they faced a soft run defense and were able to utilize all three RBs effectively. It will likely be a different story against San Diego (who has more talent than KC). So I'd play McGahee and McClain based upon matchups, such as when they face Cleveland in Week 3 and Cincy in Week 5.
3:46 FOX Fantasy:  Cody asks: Should I start Matt Forte or Thomas Jones? Forte has a tough matchup against the Steelers.
3:49 Roger Rotter:  Both have tough matchups as Jones faces New England. I'd lean towards Jones, but tt depends on who your other RBs are as Forte was likely drafted as your top back and Jones as your second or third one. Who would you play instead of Forte as your second starter at RB?
3:50 FOX Fantasy:

Jeff asks: Is it smart to get RB Bell from NO for L. Johnson?

3:52 Roger Rotter:  When Pierre Thomas returns, I'd expect Bell to just be the No. 3 RB. However, if you own Thomas, then I would make that trade. You at least would be assured of a starter at RB.
3:53 FOX Fantasy:  A reader asks: I'm looking for a tight end . Should I pick up Ben Watson or Todd Heap or Kevin Boss?
3:55 Roger Rotter:  Claim Todd Heap as he looks like he's at full strength again, and he's actually performed as a top-five tight end for past seasons. Brady usually throws to a myraid of tight ends in the red zone, so you may not receive as much consistency from him.
3:56 Roger Rotter:  Boss has potential, but I haven't seen enough excellent receiving days from him to indicate he would be a weekly starter.
3:58 FOX Fantasy:  A reader asks: Two questions, one is Earl Bennett worth keeping and two is Ronnie Brown worth starting as number 2 back?
4:00 Roger Rotter:  I'd rather have other WRs like Nate Burleson, Mark Clayton and Chansi Stuckey right now than Bennett.
4:02 Roger Rotter:  Ronnie Brown is an inconsistent start and worth starting in just favorable matchups. He's worth playing against Indy's questionable defense this week, but I largely avoided him in drafts.
4:03 FOX Fantasy:  Troy asks: What do you think Louis Murphy will do in week 2?
4:04 Roger Rotter:  He's a risky start as he only had a solid fantasy day because of one catch, and is unproven. Still, if your'e looking for a sleeper as a No. 3 or 4 fantasy wideout to start, he could be worth a chance against the Chiefs.
4:05 FOX Fantasy:  A reader asks: I'm thinking of dropping Donnie Avery for Nate Burleson, would that be a good pickup?
4:07 Roger Rotter:  I'd still keep Donnie Avery as he's the Rams' likely No. 1 WR, and has big-play ability. I would pick up Burleson for your fourth or fifth RB, fifth WR or backup TE, K or D/ST.
4:07 FOX Fantasy:  Roger will take a couple more questions. Thanks all for your patience and participation!
4:09 FOX Fantasy:  Bill asks: With Anthony Gonzalez out, I'm hearing rumors of the Colts possibly re-signing Marvin Harrison. What should i make of this?Just rumor?
4:10 Roger Rotter:  It makes sense, doesn't it? For now, it seems to be just a rumor, but it doesn't hurt to pick up Marvin Harrison from free agency just in case it becomes true. Especially for Anthony Gonzalez's owners.
4:12 FOX Fantasy:

Nathan asks: Do you think that Sproles will cut significantly into LT's playing time? I have both, initially as a handcuff, but now am considering starting Sproles as a flex.

4:13 Roger Rotter:  If Tomlinson appears on the injury report and is questionable, I'd definitely start Sproles as a flex. However, San Diego faces Baltimore, and if Tomlinson is expected to play, then I'd avoid Sproles this week.
4:13 FOX Fantasy:  Jeff asks: I have Felix Jones as my backup RB. Would you drop him for Julius Jones?
4:14 Roger Rotter:  Yes, I'd pick up Julius as he's Seattle's featured back.
4:15 FOX Fantasy:

Ed asks: Should I off-load Brandon Marshall?

4:16 Roger Rotter:  I'd keep him as Denver's offense should improve with time as the players become more acclimated to Kyle Orton and the new system.
4:16 Roger Rotter:  Thanks for all your questions! Much appreciated!
4:17 FOX Fantasy:  John Juhasz will be chatting on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET and Roger Rotter will chat again in his weekly Sunday pregame chat from 11-1 p.m. ET.
4:17 FOX Fantasy:  Thanks for all your questions!
